Women come together to celebrate sustainability leadership within the built environment
Women from across the built environment industry came together last night to listen to inspirational stories from built environment leaders, Sustainability Editor, Hattie Hartman and Open City Director, Victoria Thornton OBE about their personal and professional journeys into the sector.
Over 40 women attended the inaugural event of ‘Women in Sustainable Construction and Property’ (WSCP), held at Deloitte’s offices in Central London. Hattie and Victoria both gave amusing accounts of their careers and juggling work and a family. Afterwards they answered questions from guests and talked openly and honestly about the successes and challenges for women in the industry.
WSCP is a new networking group set up for women in the sector who hold a common agenda to combat climate change. It enables members to share information on environmental issues in construction and property, promote corporate responsibility and encourage equality and diversity at work.
Emma Nicholson, WSCP founder and Venues Sustainability Advisor for the London 2012 Games said:
“We are delighted that Hattie and Victoria, both inspirational female leaders in sustainability and the built environment, were able to join us for our first event. We were fortunate to have the rare opportunity to hear their personal stories of being a woman in the sector, and a chance to ask their advice and opinions on a whole range of subjects. We look forward to following on from the success of the evening with our Christmas networking event in November”.
